Canada: New Brunswick; Great Britain to New Brunswick Turner Correspondence, 1839 Folded trans-Atlantic letter ,written in Bedford, England March 29, 1839 by John Turner to his brother Thomas Turner in St Andrews, bearing very fine strike of large 1 AP 1839 Crown LIVERPOOL SHIP LETTER plus red NEW YORK SHIP MAY 5 and manuscript “Per English Mail”,on reverse undated Bedford receiver. Interesting contrary routing, going through New York. Great Penmanship. The Bedfordshire Historical Record Society Published The Turner Letters in 2022. The book covers the years 1830-45 and give a lively view of life in a rural village in times of upheaval. John’s brother, Thomas, was a merchant in a small Canadian port close to the United States border. Part of the correspondence relates to Thomas’s suppliers and gives an idea of the precariousness and danger of the passage from England to Canada and the difficulties of setting up a new business overseas.
