Trans Pacific Air Mail: 1938, 30c Theodore Roosevelt deep ultra marine ,tied by HONOLULU, HAWAII SEP 9 1940 duplex with boxed three-line slogan BUY U.S. SAVINGS BONDS ASK YOUR POSTMASTER on airmail envelope, bearing printed VIA TRANSPACIFIC AIR MAIL, blue circle handstamp MAILED AT MIDWAY ISLAND PAN AMERICAN AIRWAYS SYSTEM, on reverse printed MIDWAY ISLANDS PAA PACIFIC OCEAN, paying the unpublished 30c air mail rate. Wonderful example of solo use paying the unpublished rate from Midway via Hawaii. The published Post Office rate to the mainland from Guam was 40c and from Hawaii was 20c. Mail could be posted at Midway but was flown to Hawaii for cancellation. With original short letter on printed MIDWAY ISLANDS PAA PACIFIC OCEAN printed letterhead showing route from to CHINA, MACAO, HONGKONG, MANILA, GUAM I., WAKE IS., MIDWAY IS., and HONOLULU to SAN FRANCISCO, UNITED STATES.
