This Letter is addressed to Reverend Dr. Daniel Burton. Burton was the Secretary of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts. This letter was sent by John Milner, who was a missionary of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (SPG) sponsored by the Church of England in Westchester, New York, from 1761 to 1765, when he resigned after being accused of being a homosexual. He was an outspoken Loyalist and served St. Paul’s in Eastchester, St. Johns in Yonkers and sometimes in New Rochelle and Rye. He was quite a colorful and controversial character. He moved to Virginia and repeated his non-pastoral conduct. Forced to leave, he ended his days in England.
