Description
Colonial: Used to Great Britain; 1761 NEW YORK two-line in browish red in folded letter sheet to London. ,date lined “Sept 19 1761 and noted to be read at committee on “Jan 11, 1762”, the committee was the “Propagation of the Gospel,” and the writer is likely Samuel Albright, who served as the reverend for Trinity Cbhurch. On the reverse, decent strike of London “II DE” Bishop’s mark. A wonderful handwritten and ecclesiastical addressee Est. Cash Val. $500 – 700
“The Society for Propagating the Gospel Among the Indians and Others in North America” was the first Protestant missionary organization of its kind in North America. It existed in concept prior to its 1787 charter as a group of Boston individuals sponsoring missionary work in New England.
