1859 Columbia College (NY) Commencement mementos including and Card, Entertainment, PSI UPSILON Fraterbity invitations and card well traveled to London, Paris and ,Three letters all contained in one bulging envelope New York AM PKTJUL2 to London JY 15 then to Geneva 17 July through France via Baring Brother and Hottinguers to a Mr. M.H. Grinnell (far more notations to decipher). Interesting letter content. Mr. M.H. Grinnell who is likely Moses H. Grinnell. Robert B. Minturn, Franklin H. Delano, Moses H. Grinnell and brother Henry Grinnell were partners in Grinnell, Minturn & Co. which was one of the leading transatlantic shipping companies in the 19th century. The famous Flying Cloud, arguably the greatest of the clipper ships was one of the prizes in their stable. These men were among the wealthiest of the merchant-kings of New York in their day. Est.
