Colonial: 1796 June, Wolcott, Oliver Jr. second Treasurer of the United States following Alexander Hamilton, free franked printed folded letter with full signature ,from the Treasury Department bearing “FREE” handstamp “14 IV” in circle Bishop mark and Oliver Wolcott jr. sent to William Tuck, Collector in Gloucester Massachusetts with a printed receipt for $2,000 Est. Oliver Wolcott, jr. was a Connecticut-based politician. Educated at Yale University and with a degree in law from Litchfield Law School. He served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War as an aide-de-camp for his father. He became the first auditor of the federal treasury in 1789, in 1795 he was the comptroller of the Treasury Department later that year, Secretary of the Treasury under President George Washington. In 1802, he formed Oliver Wolcott & Company, an import-export firm. Wolcott established Bank of America in 1811, working there until 1814.
In 1817 he was elected governor of Connecticut and served ten consecutive one-year terms. He died in New York City on June 1, 1833.
