Confederate States: 1860’s Four stampless envelopes all addressed to the Perkins family in New Britain Conn, Two SHIP ISLAND, MISS ,weak and light strikes, with numeral “3”; also New ORLEANS JUN 19 1862 c.d.s. manuscript “Custom House” and no town, manuscript “In Haste”, Due 3 handstamp. Three addressed to Edwin Perkins one to Master Herbert. Reference materials included, Regiment history and copies of articles. Est. Cash Val. $300 – 500
The balloon SHIP ISLAND MISS postmark was used Apr 30 – June 11, 1862. Created by John Parker, a Federal Postmaster. A fascinating story.
