Description
UNITED STATES: Stampless Colonial: Used to London; 1765 April Folded letter sheet .to the Reverend Daniel Burton, London. Burton was the Secretary of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts. The cover bears on reverse, a brown-red American bishop mark 27 AP, two line NEW YORK origin and a portion of the London receiver, on the front a manuscript “2N” and “X”. Internal docketing “No 7 New England Connecticut a letter from Reverend John Beach minister at Newtown, CT dated Reading Newtown April 12, 1965” The letter (not accompanying) but “Read at Committee July 15, 1765” . This and the following cover are both addressed to Daniel Burton and attached to the accomanying Exhibition page. Ex Archive of S.P.G. (probable)..

The letter was sent to Reverend Dr. Daniel Burton, London. Burton was the Secretary of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts. This letter was sent by the Rev. John Beach, who was from Redding, Newtown, Connecticut. Beach was a steadfast Tory who preached for over half a century, until his death in 1782, in Christ Church, Episcopal, in Redding Ridge, Connecticut.
